Unlocking Your Dream Career: How To Leverage Your Unique Energy Type To Maximize Your Opportunities

I see a lot of career coaches teaching a similar technique to get your "dream job."

It looks something like this:

1. Stop applying for jobs online.

2. Start a targeted LinkedIn networking campaign.

3. Get referrals from people already working in the companies you want to work for.

4. Optimize your resume and cover letter for ATS and job-specific keywords.

5. Create a value proposition project.

6. Secure high-paying corporate jobs.

7. Live happily ever after.

(Ok, number 7 is sarcasm, but you get the point).

The problem with this method is that it's only appropriate for a small group of people who fit a very specific energy type.

What do I mean by that?

Each of us is designed differently and uniquely. Understanding your human design can help you structure your career path in a way that feels like you are going with the flow of the river, rather than against it.

And if you've tried to search for jobs with no luck, you might know that feeling well.

Alternatively, maybe you've also had experiences where opportunities seemed to just fall in your lap out of nowhere.

This is what happens when we allow our energy to take the lead.

How to leverage your energy type to maximize your career opportunities:

If you've never heard of Human Design, buckle up. It's quite a complex system that I have been studying for years now, and still have barely scratched the surface.

Essentially, what it offers us is a practical understanding of how we are designed to navigate life.

*Side note - if you don't know your human design and you would like to, you can see it for free here. I love helping people understand their design and how they can leverage it in their career path, so send me a message if you want some guidance!

When we look at our human design chart, we see a lot of information. In this article, I'm going to focus on type and strategy, and how you can best approach your career path by leveraging yours.

Manifestor

The manifestor type is really the only type that is designed to "go out and make things happen."

In other words, a manifestor would likely do well approaching their career path the way I mentioned earlier.

They also make up about 9% of the population.

Manifestors are designed to initiate action based on what truly lights them up.

However, they are not meant to work all the time.

Manifestors are designed to be visionaries. They see a clear path forward, initiate the path, and then rest when their energy requires it.

They have a strong impact on others and they are not here to be controlled or negotiate.

If you're a manifestor, it's important for you to remember to inform others before you take action on big projects or changes.

Your energy is powerful and influential. And while you definitely aren't here to ask permission, you will likely find that informing others of your plans allows for more cohesion and peace in the long run.

Generator and Manifesting Generator

Generators and manifesting generators are the most prominent type - making up over 70% of the population.

If you're a generator, you have a consistent flow of life-force energy. You are here to get busy doing work you love.

The keyword is LOVE.

It is important for generators and manifesting generators to use up their energy each day, but if you're not doing work you love, you will likely feel burnt out.

You are also NOT designed to go out and make things happen like the manifestor type.

Instead, you are here to sample many options and respond to them.

So when it comes to looking for career opportunities, the best way for you to approach this is to "try on" lots of opportunities, because you may not know exactly what you want until you're faced with it.

This may look like applying for jobs online and seeing how you feel when they offer you an interview.

This may also look like talking to people you know about what you're looking for and seeing what that leads to.

It may also look like taking a job, or starting a project, and then realizing it's not for you.

Please remember that it is always ok to change course.

The work you do is important for your overall well-being. And it may require you to sample lots of things before you get a flavor for what you really want.

Trust the internal response you get to opportunities that come your way.

(And don't worry, you attract those opportunities naturally.)

Projector

Projectors make up about 22% of the population. They are natural guides for others and they do really well with one-on-one interactions.

If you're a projector, you will likely find that you work best in an environment that allows you to do work on your own time and at your own pace. You may find that you need the freedom to take space and downtime when needed because you don't have consistent energy for work.

You might be particularly well-suited for what's called a portfolio career, which involves a combination of part-time work and business ventures that allow you to follow your energy and creativity, as well as have autonomy over your time and schedule.

When looking for opportunities, the best approach is to wait to be invited.

That doesn't mean that you aren't taking action.

It does mean that most likely, the best opportunities for you will show up through your network and might occur spontaneously and naturally.

Perhaps you've already experienced this. Maybe a friend offered you a job in their company, or maybe you randomly met someone at the supermarket who asked you to speak to their community.

The invitation is powerful for you. Pay attention to when you're invited to things and always run the opportunity through your internal guidance system to see if the opportunity is truly aligned.

This will help you move into success on your terms, which is a big part of what you're here for.

Reflector

Reflectors are the rarest type and makeup about 1% of the population.

If you're a reflector, you are here to see and mirror back the uniqueness of life.

You are also here to sample lots of different flavors of life. You take in the energy around you and spit it back out. This gives you an unusual capacity to have a sense of all of the energy around you and move through the world lightly.

When faced with a career opportunity, the best strategy for you is to wait for a full 28-day lunar cycle before making a decision.

Most likely, you are best suited for work that many would consider non-traditional. You need a career path that gives you the space and freedom to wait 28 days before making big decisions, as well as one that recognizes and appreciates the unique gifts you bring to the table.

You are deeply impacted by the nature of your environment, so make sure that you are selective in choosing what types of work environments work best for you.

Side note: do your best not to get caught up in the search for stability. Your stability lives within you.
